Core Housing Need

Published By: City of Surry,

Core housing need is when individuals are living in housing that requires major repair, does not have enough space for the needs of the household, or costs 30% or more of the household's income. These situations can be financially draining, unhealthy and stressful for individuals and families. The percentage of renter households in core housing need is a measure of the need for adequate, appropriate and affordable housing in Surrey. The City aims to see a downward trend in the proportion of individuals in core housing need. Data source: Statistics Canada (Note: 2011 data quality may be inferior to previous years due to the voluntary nature of the National Household Survey that has replaced the mandatory long form census).
