C.P.T.E.D. Certified Development

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D.) is a set of strategies that can pro-actively deter crime. It emphasises the use of design features to decrease the opportunity for crime to take place. Strategies include creating open spaces that maximise visibility and observation, and making street life open and inviting for residents. The number of major new developments that undergo a crime prevention review via the City's Advisory Design Panel is a measure of how well spaces in Surrey promote public safety.
