Proximity to Farmers Markets

Published By: City of Surry,

Farmers markets enhance community food security by giving farmers direct access to customers, and enabling residents to buy fresh, local produce. It also provides residents the opportunity to learn more about where their food comes from and meet the people that grew it. Locating farmers markets within a short walk, cycle, or transit ride of residents makes them easily and conveniently accessible, which is a measure of food security. The City aims to see 75% of the population living within a 20 minute bike ride (6.6 km) of a farmer's market by 2058.
