Employment in Arts, Culture and Recreation

Culture is an essential tool in understanding the values, shared meanings, and goals of residents within a community. The arts, culture and sports industries are economic drivers in the community that support jobs, generate revenue, and support tourism. The proportion of Surrey's workforce that is employed in arts, culture, recreation, or sports is a measure of the viability and vibrancy of cultural industries in Surrey. The City aims to see the proportion of people employed in the arts, culture and recreation trend up over time. Data source: Statistics Canada (Note: 2011 data quality may be inferior to previous years due to the voluntary nature of the National Household Survey that has replaced the mandatory long form census).
