Victimization of Seniors

Surrey's seniors have a number of important roles to play in our city and the City aims to ensure seniors are supported to be active and engaged in their community and practices are in place to prevent isolation. This also includes reducing senior harm and victimization and various initiatives in Surrey also focus on helping seniors avoid scams and on preventing and reporting elder abuse and neglect. The percentage of seniors in Surrey experiencing victimization is a measure of the extent to which persons 65 years of age and older are the victim within files reported to or discovered by police that involve at least one criminal code offence. The City aims to see a downward trend in this indicator. This indicator is also a performance measure for the Public Safety Strategy.
